What's your opinion: UC Davis or UCSD?

I applied as a biochem major, but I want to change to mechanical engineering. I'm from Sonoma County (an hour away from Davis), I love the sun, I want down-to-earth people, a good selection of guys, and challenging cles but not too competitive. I've visited both campuses; UCSD seemed pretty spread out and not that nice; Davis seemed nice but I don't like the agricultural part of it. Davis seems more comfortable to me, but UCSD has a better reputation and nice weather. What should I do?
