Question about trading in my truck or waiting to get it appraised from accident?

I was hit yesterday and it was not my fault. I have damage to my door,quarter panel,bumper,and my tire is wobbling.I was wondering if I should or have to wait for my insurance company to ess the damage or can I usse it as a trade in and finance a new vehicle, I need to have a vehicle for work.I owe 6K and it blue books for 5K-6K. not sure what the damages will cost but if its significant they may total it.Any advice is appreciated.
