A vaccine stimulates the immune system to produce antibodies. The viruses and germs in a vaccine are dead or weakened or it may contain a tiny amount of snake venom or other toxin. The small amount of toxin is not enough to kill or sicken a person, but it will stimulate the production of antibodies, which are proteins that will neutralize a virus, a bacterium or a toxin/venom.
